Day 1:

Arrive in the international airport of Kotoka in Accra. You will be greeted by your tour guide and escorted by bus to your hotel. There you will receive an orientation. Relax as you acclimate to your new environment.

Day 2:


After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of the capital city of Accra with its blend of modern as well as colonial architecture. Visit Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Black Star Square. Then browse and pick up some souvenirs such as Kente cloth, carvings, leather goods and jewelry at the arts center. Following lunch enjoy more shopping at Accra's largest outdoor market. Dine on native cuisine at one of Accra's fine restaurants. If you would like to experience the city's nightlife, you may have fun dancing at one of Accra's hotspots.

Day 3:

After breakfast, depart Accra for Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti region and Ghana's second largest city. Enjoy the scenic drive and observe the cocoa trees and forest. Arrive in Kumasi for lunch. After lunch take a guided city tour. Visit Manhyia Palace Museum, the National Cultural Center and the Kumasi central market – the largest open – air market in West Africa. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the hotel.


Day 4:

After breakfast, observe craftsmen busily producing their wares while visiting Ashanti craft villages. These villages include Ntonso, known for its Adinfra cloth and Bonwire infamous for its production of Ghana's hand woven Kente cloth. You may also purchase artisan work such as masks, walking sticks and fertility dolls. Enjoy lunch before departing for Elmina in the central region. Enjoy the drive through the heart of the Ashanti region's gold mining district. Check into the hotel and take a guided tour of Elmina.

Day 5:


Depart after breakfast to visit the Elmina Castle. Built in 1482 by Portuguese traders, Elmina Castle was the first European slave-trading post in sub-Saharan Africa. Here you will have a guided tour of this UNESCO world heritage site. Observe the slave dungeons first hand. Continue on to Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum. You will be guided to the quarters and negotiation hall where African slaves were bargained for and sold. Many visitors make a special prayer here. Return to the hotel for lunch. Enjoy a free afternoon where you may relax on the beach or by the swimming pool. Have dinner and spend the night in Elmina.

Day 6:


Have breakfast and depart for Kakum National Park. The park covers an area of 350km of moist evergreen rainforest with tall hard wood trees up to 65m in height. Kakum is also home to a rich diversity of wildlife including 40 species of mammals (such as: forest elephants, buffalo, leopard, bongo red river hog and monkeys) over 200 species of birds, large numbers of reptiles and amphibians and over 400 species of butterflies. Enjoy a park ranger guided walk and learn about the medicinal uses of the plants and trees. If heights don't make you queasy, enjoy a panoramic view of the rainforest from the aerial walkway. Enjoy lunch and return to Accra. On the way, view fishing villages, palm lined beaches, as well as sugar cane and pineapple plantations. Have dinner in Accra. Catch up on your rest or enjoy an evening on the town.

Day 7:

Sleep in a little and relax Then, take the rest of day for your own leisure activities. Have lunch at one of Accra's many fine restaurants. Perhaps you'd like to do some more souvenir shopping at the Accra mall or the more traditional market at Osu Oxford Street. Sencoconut can help you arrange a taxi or private car. In the evening, go to a disco club, bar or quiet jazz bistro. Spend the night in Accra.


Day 8:

Enjoy breakfast. Hotel checkout is at noon but baggage storage can be arranged. Then, head out for some sunbathing on Accra's most popular beach-Lobadi. Take in the sights and sounds of the locals. Music, drumming, dancing and barbecuing are frequent beach activities. Horse back riding on the beach can be arranged.
